That’s Incredible

Jalea at Pio Pio Riko. I should have put something next to the plate for perspective. It’s a 14-inch serving platter, folks.

Taco Santana

Based on a glowing Sietsema review, Gracie and I decided to skip $12 Eggs Benedict on Bedford Ave in favor of some assorted meats at Taco Santana, a tiny taqueria just off Broadway near the JMZ. We shared the excellent cecina plate – a generous heap of extremely flavorful meat garnished with avocado and shredded lettuce, with run-of-the-mill rice and beans. Our two enormous tacos (we chose Santana style, con todo) came in very fresh, lightly griddled tortillas. The carnitas (bits of very crispy, very piggy pork with an almost eye-watering spiciness) was the winner, but the chorizo was tasty as well. I’m looking forward to working my way through the taco list and hoping that some mystery meats might make an appearance. Even though we didn’t need much extra heat with our food, we couldn’t help dumping the homemade red hot sauce on everything. We agreed that it’s one of the best we’ve had. If only this place delivered to Greenpoint…
